Model Selection Guide for SCP-75 Series

The MEAN WELL SCP-75 Series includes two compact AC/DC power supplies with dedicated battery connection and charging-voltage temperature compensation capability: SCP-75-12 and SCP-75-24.

Model selection is primarily determined by the required DC output voltage and continuous load current. Both models share the same 85–264VAC or 120–370VDC input range, battery connection, optional NTC temperature compensation, output voltage detection signal, protection functions and 159 × 97 × 38 mm enclosure.

SCP-75-12 – 13.8V Output

The MEAN WELL SCP-75-12 provides a 13.8V output rated at 5.4A with 74.5W rated power. Typical efficiency is 80%, and the output voltage can be adjusted approximately -5% to +15% from the rated value.

Choose SCP-75-12 when the connected DC load requires a nominal output around 13.8V and the continuous load current does not exceed 5.4A. For short-duration loads, the model can provide up to 6.5A for 5 seconds, subject to the specified duty-cycle and average-power limits.

SCP-75-24 – 27.6V Output

The MEAN WELL SCP-75-24 provides a 27.6V output rated at 2.7A with 74.5W rated power. Typical efficiency is 84%, and the output voltage can also be adjusted approximately -5% to +15% from the rated value.

Choose SCP-75-24 when the system requires a nominal output around 27.6V and the continuous load current is within the 2.7A rated output capability. Short-duration loads up to 3.2A for 5 seconds are supported under the specified peak-load conditions.

How to Choose Between SCP-75-12 and SCP-75-24

Start with the required DC system voltage. Choose SCP-75-12 for a 13.8V output or SCP-75-24 for a 27.6V output.

Then confirm the continuous load current. SCP-75-12 provides up to 5.4A, while SCP-75-24 provides up to 2.7A. If the application includes short-duration current peaks, also verify the 5-second peak capability and ensure the average output power remains within the rated value.

Both models provide dedicated B+ and B- battery connections and support an optional NTC temperature sensor through CN2. When the sensor is connected, the output voltage changes with ambient temperature to provide charging-voltage temperature compensation. If the sensor is not used, the charger continues to operate normally.

Output Voltage Detection and Monitoring

Both SCP-75 models provide an L output voltage detection signal for external status monitoring. Under normal AC input, the L signal is approximately the output voltage plus 0.2–0.7V. During AC failure, the signal falls to 0V.

This discrete status signal allows external monitoring circuitry to distinguish between AC OK and AC failure conditions.

Need help choosing the correct SCP-75 model? Start with the required output voltage and continuous load current, then check any short-duration peak-current requirement and whether temperature-compensated charging-voltage control is needed.

Battery Connection, Temperature Compensation and Status Monitoring

The MEAN WELL SCP-75 Series provides dedicated battery connections, optional charging-voltage temperature compensation and an output voltage detection signal for battery-supported DC systems. These functions are available on both SCP-75-12 and SCP-75-24.

Battery Connection

The external battery connects through the dedicated B+ and B- terminals, while the main DC load connects to the +V and -V output terminals.

The battery terminals and main output terminals serve different functions, so the battery should be connected only to the designated B+ / B- connections.

Charging-Voltage Temperature Compensation

An optional NTC temperature sensor can be connected through CN2 to compensate the charging voltage according to ambient temperature.

With the reference 100kΩ thermistor specified by MEAN WELL, the output voltage changes with temperature. For SCP-75-12, the reference output is approximately 14.4V at 0°C, 13.8V at 25°C and 13.2V at 50°C. For SCP-75-24, the corresponding values are approximately 29.3V, 27.6V and 26.4V.

If the temperature sensor is not connected, the charger continues to operate normally.

Adjustment note: If the output voltage is adjusted away from the rated value using the internal potentiometer, MEAN WELL recommends confirming the appropriate thermistor value for the modified setting.

Output Voltage Detection

The SCP-75 Series provides an L output voltage detection signal for external status monitoring.

Under normal AC input, the L signal is approximately output voltage +0.2 to 0.7V. When AC input fails, the L signal falls to 0V.

This signal can be used by an external monitoring circuit or controller to distinguish between normal AC operation and AC failure.

Battery Reverse-Polarity Protection

The SCP-75 Series includes battery reverse-polarity protection by fuse.

The series also provides short-circuit, overload and overvoltage protection for the DC output.

  • FG: Frame ground

The regulated DC output is available through TB2, with dedicated +V and -V terminals for the connected load.

Battery Connections

The SCP-75 Series provides dedicated B+ and B- connections for an external battery.

The battery should be connected only to the designated B+ / B- connections. The +V / -V terminals are intended for the regulated DC output and should not be used as battery connections.

CN2 Temperature Sensor Connection

The CN2 connector is provided for an optional NTC temperature sensor used for charging-voltage temperature compensation.

CN2 uses a JST B2B-XH or equivalent connector, with a compatible JST XHP housing and JST SXH-001T-P0.6 terminal or equivalent.

If the temperature sensor is not connected, the charger continues to operate normally.

Mounting and Cooling

The SCP-75 Series is cooled by free-air convection.

The mechanical drawing provides the mounting-hole positions and enclosure dimensions required for equipment integration. Installation should allow the unit to operate within the specified temperature and derating conditions.

Operating Environment and Derating

The SCP-75 Series operates from -20°C to +60°C.

Output derating is required at higher ambient temperatures, and additional derating applies at low AC input voltage. The applicable load limits should be checked when the power supply is used near the upper operating-temperature range or at the lower end of the AC input range.
