Programmable Output, Remote ON/OFF, Remote Sense, DC OK Signal and CANBus
The MEAN WELL NSP-1600 Series provides output voltage programming, remote ON/OFF control, Remote Sense, DC OK signal, T-ALARM signal and CANBus communication functions for advanced industrial system integration and high-power DC output applications.
For NSP-1600-12, NSP-1600-24, NSP-1600-36 and NSP-1600-48 models, the series supports output voltage programming from 40–125% of nominal output voltage, with 15–125% available by request. This allows engineers to adjust the output voltage according to system requirements in factory automation equipment, test instruments, laser-related machinery, aging facilities, digital broadcasting equipment and constant current source applications.
The built-in remote ON/OFF control function allows external switching of the power supply, making the NSP-1600 Series suitable for systems requiring power sequencing, standby control and centralized power architecture management. Remote Sense, DC OK signal, T-ALARM signal, 12Vaux auxiliary power and CANBus communication further support system-level monitoring, voltage compensation, operational status feedback and digital power control in high-power industrial equipment.
Output Voltage Programming
The NSP-1600 Series supports output voltage programming for all 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V models. The standard programmable range is 40–125% of nominal output voltage, while 15–125% can be supported by request according to project requirements.
This function is particularly useful for applications requiring adjustable DC output, voltage tuning, equipment-level power optimization and system-controlled output behavior. For example, NSP-1600-24 can be used in 24V industrial systems requiring programmable voltage adjustment, while NSP-1600-48 can support 48V DC bus architectures requiring controlled output voltage settings.
The rated current should change with the output voltage programming accordingly. For Remote Sense or Local Sense wiring, engineers should follow the function manual and installation guidance to ensure correct voltage feedback and stable output regulation.
Remote ON/OFF Control
The remote ON/OFF function is controlled through the control interface using R.C and +5V-aux. According to the NSP-1600 function description, the power supply turns ON when R.C is shorted to +5V-aux, and turns OFF when the connection is open.
This dry-contact or electrical signal control method allows the NSP-1600 Series to be integrated into external system logic, automation sequencing, standby power management and centralized power control strategies.
Remote ON/OFF control is useful for equipment designs where the power supply must be started or stopped by a controller, relay, optocoupler control module or system-level power management circuit.
Remote Sense, DC OK and T-ALARM Signal
The NSP-1600 Series provides Remote Sense, DC OK signal and T-ALARM signal functions for system-level integration. Remote Sense compensates voltage drop on the load wiring up to 0.5Vdc, helping maintain stable voltage at the load side in high-current wiring applications.
The DC OK signal provides output status feedback for control, alarm and protection systems. According to the function description, the DC OK signal changes state according to output voltage status, allowing equipment controllers to monitor whether the output voltage is within the expected operating range.
The T-ALARM signal provides thermal and fan-failure status feedback. It can be used to indicate over temperature alarm conditions or fan abnormality, helping system designers add preventive monitoring and protection logic in high-power industrial equipment.
12Vaux Auxiliary Power and Intelligent Fan Control
The NSP-1600 Series provides a 12Vaux auxiliary power output rated at 0.8A, referenced to GND-aux. This auxiliary output can be used for control circuits, monitoring circuits and system-level interface functions where a small auxiliary power source is required.
The series also includes built-in intelligent fan speed control based on the internal temperature of the power supply. This helps balance cooling performance and acoustic noise under different load and ambient temperature conditions.
Together with DC OK and T-ALARM signal output, the 12Vaux auxiliary output and fan monitoring functions make the NSP-1600 Series suitable for intelligent industrial power systems requiring operational feedback and control integration.
CANBus Communication and Control Connector Information
The NSP-1600 Series supports CANBus communication for control, setting and monitoring functions. CANBus enables the power supply to communicate with external controllers in intelligent industrial power architectures.
The control interface provides access to output voltage programming, Remote Sense, remote ON/OFF control, DC OK signal, T-ALARM signal, 12Vaux auxiliary power and CANBus-related functions. These features simplify integration into factory automation equipment, test systems, laser-related machinery, aging facilities, digital broadcasting equipment and other high-power industrial DC systems.
Unlike the NSP-1000 Series content previously used as a template, this NSP-1600 section does not include 200% peak power capability, programmable output current, MODBus protocol, parallel operation or 5Vaux auxiliary output, because these features are not listed as NSP-1600 Series specifications in the datasheet.
